Senior Systems Engineer (Linux RedHat & Puppet)

Oakland, CA (100% remote/must work PST Hours/Must be in California)

12 Month Contract

Visa: US Citizen, Green Card, H4

2 Zoom interviews

Must have:

Expertise with Puppet Versions from version 3 to 7.19
Experience with Puppet, Puppet’s declarative language to specify system configuration in Puppet manifests, complex resource dependencies, compilation into catalogs for distribution to target systems/servers, and split Puppet Master architecture.
7+ years of Linux Redhat (must have experience with version 6, 7, 8, preferably 9 if possible)

The client UCOP is in the middle of moving a datacenter from San Diego to AWS. They have older Linux OS Servers that have Puppet (versions 3 & 6)and both need to be upgraded and automated for the migration.

Job Description

Expertise with automation/configuration management using Puppet
Good knowledge with Puppet, Puppet’s declarative language to specify system configuration in Puppet manifests, complex resource dependencies, compilation into catalogs for distribution to target systems/servers, and split Puppet Master architecture.
Proven configuration management skills and mindset
Experience maintaining large clusters using configuration tools such as : Puppet/Chef
Strong practical Linux based systems administration skills in a cloud or virtualized environment – Prior experience of

Qualifications

Expertise with Puppet Versions from version 3 to 7.19
Operating highly available and scalable infrastructure solutions
Strong hands-on experience in any of the scripting language Shell, Perl, Python, or Ruby
Experience with revision control source code repositories (Git, SVN, etc- )
Work with development teams to identify and implement automation in appropriate areas
Knowledge on distributed applications/enterprise applications is plus.
Deep, working knowledge of web, database, and OS server configuration (Linux, Apache, and MySQL preferred platforms)
Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
